Nationwide League Division Three
Chesterfield 1 Hull City 0

Whilst City aquitted themselves well the league leaders generally had the slight edge. In the first half it was pretty much even. Gary Brabin produced another pile-driver which Mike Politt in the Chesterfield goal could only parry. Mike Edwards did exactly the same and briefly the ball looked to be rolling towards the goal line but Politt recovered and grabbed the ball at the second attempt. Musselwhite was equally as busy having to tip over the bar.
In second half Chesterfield got the upper hand and midway through the half the got the goal that would seal the victory. After a good deal of pressure the ball was not cleared and Luke Beckett struck from inside the box to shoot past Musselwhite. Beckett then went close twice more but both times he shot wide. City's best chance fell to Theodore Whitmore but his shot was just over the cross bar. In the dying minutes City were playing with three strikers after David Brown was brought on. They had a decent amount of possession but most of it was squandered and no clear cut chances were produced.

Nationwide League Division Three
Hull City 2 Darlington 0

The Tigers are proving to be a diffcult side to beat this season. Despite long periods of Darlington pressure they could not break down City's defence and through two well worked moves it was City who gained all three points. The game took a little while to get going with both sides looking lethargic, but it was Darlington who almost took the lead with Musselwhite having to save well at the near post. Mid way through the half the Tigers finally came to life with three chances in quick succession, culminating with a Clint Marcelle shot across goal that went just wide of the post. But with the half drawing to a close it was City who took the lead. A well worked move involving Whitmore, Harper and Brown saw Brown lay the ball off for Gray Brabin on the edge of the box. Brabin hit the ball perfectly, swerving round the outstretched 'keepers hands and into the bottom corner.
The second half saw Darlington have a great deal of possession but City's defence held firm. There was a scare when a Darlington player had a free header at the back post, but the ball bounced off the bottom of the post for a goal kick. With Darlington pushing men forward City had a number of breaks. Whitmore brought the ball out of midfield on a number of occassions but the final telling pass of the move would not come off. However with fifteen minutes of the half remaining such a move did come off. Whitmore brought the ball out of City's half with Darlington on their back legs. He slotted a ball to Marcelle and raced into the box. Marcelle then passed back to Whitmore who put the ball home from six yards out. This took a good deal off pressure off City and they controlled the match to its conclusion.

Nationwide League Division Three
York City 0 Hull City 0

The Tiger's recorded their third consecutive draw, this time against ex-manager Terry Dolan. Despite the pitch being waterlogged in places, and with rain still falling, the game went ahead. Both sides had problems with the ball getting stuck in the water but it was City who probably had the better play. Theodore Whitmore was placed up front with Clint Marcelle whilst Mark Greaves returned in midfield alongside Gary Brabin and Steve Swales. Whitmore and Marcelle often combined well together, particularly in the second half, but the final telling pass was just not there and either the move would break down or Alan Fettis would easily save a weak shot. At the other end Paul Musselwhite had to make a couple of decent saves, one in the first half when York broke through, and one in the second when he had to tip over the bar . However, City's defence held firm once again, with Ian Goodison making one telling clearance off the boot of a York player about to strike.

Nationwide League Division Three
Hull City 0 Hartlepool United 0

If City were fortunate to gain a draw against Southend then they were unfortunate to only get a draw in this match. For the bulk of the first half City made only a few half chances. Thedore Whitmore had a shot blocked and Clint Marcelle was caught offside when clear. At the other Paul Musellwhite had to make a full length save from Kevin Henderson and a header from a corner went inches wide. However, it was the dying minutes of the first half that City began to make their mark. First Marcelle went clear only to have his shot saved by Williams in the Hartlepool net. From the resulting corner Ian Goodison's header hit the underside of the cross bar and rebounded down. Then a minute later Goodison had an effort from 30 yards which just went over the cross bar.
Into the second half City continued to gain the upper hand. Whitmore was releasing balls from midfield but too often City were caught offside. After fifteen minutes of the half John Eyre went off with a hamstring injury to be replaced by David Brown. Hartlepool then had a brief flurry but it came to naught. Gary Brabin started a match for the first time for a while and almost scored with a shot that clipped the outside edge of the post. Whitmore then had a drive which went just wide. Into the last ten minutes David Brown had the ball in the net after an excellent move between Whitmore and Marcelle. However, Brown was ruled offside and the goal did not stand. City continued to push forward in the last few minutes but a goal would not come.

Nationwide League Division Three
Hull City 1 Southend United 1

The Tigers were lucky to get a draw out of this game after an impressive Southend bombarded City's goal with corners and free-kicks. Paul Musselwhite had to make some excellent saves to keep City in the match. However, it was the Tigers who took the lead after ten minutes. Southend had started well but City had had a couple of forays forward. When a particular attack looked to have broken down John Eyre ghosted in from behind a Southend defender to snatch the ball from him only to be tripped inside the penalty area. Eyre duly took the penalty and whilst the 'keeper got a touch with his legs the ball safely nestled in the Southend goal. For most of the rest of the half City had to defend frequent attacks by the Shrimpers, often led by ex-Tiger Martin Carruthers, forcing Musselwhite to save well on a number of occasions. City's closest chance came to Ian Goodison whose snap shot went wide from inside the penalty box.
Into the second half Southend continued to bombard City gaining corner after corner (they gained 14 in all). Carruthers almost levelled when a powerful shot had Musselwhite beaten only to rebound off the post. However, the equaliser finally came with Leo Roget scoring with a header from a corner. Soon after Gary Brabin and Jamie Wood came on for Lee Philpott and Clint Marcelle. This seemed to settle things down in midfield but too often City would lose the ball (Theodore Whitmore often, surprisingly, to blame for this). Into the last ten minutes Southend seemed to ease off slightly allowing City, finally, to come into the game. John Eyre and Jamie Wood had half chances but the Southend 'keeper saved well at their feet. This was definitely a point gained.
